Viewers, Players, Plugins, and Browsers

The following is a list of popular plugins and programs that are commonly required to access online resources and browse the internet. To see if you have already installed the recommended program, and it is working properly, click on the Test link directly to the right of the Program Logo.

Enable Cookies

For Internet Explorer 6.x:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Select Tools then choose Internet Options.
3. Select the Privacy tab.
4. Enable Cookies:
   • If using a default setting, move the slider to select any of the following privacy settings:
     • Medium High
     • Medium
     • Low
     • Accept all cookies
   • If using a custom setting:
     • Click the Advanced button.
     • Select Override automatic cookie handling.
     • Select Always allow session cookies.
5. Click OK to return to the Privacy Tab.
6. Click Apply then OK.

Browser Cleanup

Delete Cookies & Temporary Internet Files

For Internet Explorer 6.x:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Select Tools then choose Internet Options.
3. Select the General tab.
4. Click the Delete Cookies and Delete Files buttons.
5. Click Apply then OK.

Determine your Operating System

1. Click the Start Menu, go to Programs, Accessories, go to System Tools, then select System Information.
2. A window will appear and the version of your operating system should be listed in the window.
3. The most common operating systems for PCs are Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.

Determine your Browser Version

Microsoft Internet Explorer (Mozilla) version 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727).

1. To manually determine your browser version, open the browser and select Help.
2. Click on About from the menu.

Victoria College recommends using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher to access College Computer resources.
